I began working with metal in 2001. From the first time I picked up the torch I knew my desire to have a “passion” in my life was being realized. Through many classes and workshops taken all over the US, and much time spent at my bench I’ve honed my skills and developed an esthetic that defines my work. My jewelry designs are fun, simple, sophisticated, and full of life. Color, texture, and movement are key elements in my pieces. I work primarily in sterling silver but it’s not until I add one or all of the above elements that my pieces come to life for me. My color is applied in the form of hand-colored resin or torch-fired enamel. I apply texture by hammering, etching, and printing. I try to look at life with a simple and straight-forward attitude and my jewelry reflects that. I’m drawn to uncomplicated shapes and forms so you will often find circles, squares, and ovals used in repetition throughout my work. Even though the basic forms are simple, they build upon each other making every piece undeniably distinct. All of my jewelry is produced in my Pioneer Square studio in Seattle, WA. The inspiration for my work comes from anything and everything around me; a piece of fabric, a book cover, the colors in a painting, the texture on a piece of tree bark. So each day the things I see serve as the inspiration for my jewelry. The greatest satisfaction comes when that inspiration becomes a completed design and a wonderful piece to wear. Inspiration, creation, completion. I love the whole process! |
